Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Quad Cities IA IL
531 AM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Mid-week rain is not looking overly impactful for the area
with light amounts.
- A slow warming trend begins the second half of the week that
will be briefly interrupted on Friday.
- A significant warm up begins this weekend and continues into
next week with a high (>80%) probability of above normal
temperatures.
&&
.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Issued at 221 AM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Quiet but chilly conditions will again be seen across the area
today. As the high moves into the Great Lakes, southerly flow will
develop allowing for a warmer Tuesday night.
Prior to sunrise on Wednesday a weak storm system will approach the
area. Moisture flowing north in the return flow may allow some
isolated sprinkles or showers to develop just before sunrise for
areas along and south of Highway 30.
&&
.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Issued at 221 AM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Wednesday through Thursday
Assessment...medium (40-60%) confidence on rain chances
There will be two weak low centers that move through the area at mid-
week; the first on Wednesday and the second on Thursday. The model
consensus has a distinct diurnal trend with the pops Wednesday
through Thursday; that is, the higher pops are during the afternoon
and into the early evening each day.
The better rain chances will be with the first low on Wednesday due
to the slightly better forcing/moisture. Given the timing of the
first low, isolated thunderstorms are possible. The favored area for
any thunderstorms will be along/south of I-80.
Right now the model consensus has 20-60 percent rain chances
Wednesday/Wednesday night with the highest chances east of an
Independence, IA to Aledo, IL line. On Thursday the rain chances are
30-40 percent area-wide.
Thursday night through Sunday night
Assessment...high (>80%) confidence on above normal temperatures
After a cool down Thursday night and Friday behind the departing
system, an upper level ridge builds north from the Plains. This
ridge will develop southerly flow at the surface and aloft bringing
in warmer than normal temperatures for the weekend.
Monday/Monday night
Assessment...high (>80%) confidence on above normal temperatures.
Low (<30%) confidence on rain chances
The model consensus brings a weak upper level disturbance through
the area but there are disagreements on the overall timing. The
system is moisture starved so any rain that occurs will likely be
isolated in nature. In fact there are some solutions that keep
Monday and Monday night dry.
The model consensus has 20 percent chances for rain showers or
sprinkles for Monday and Monday night. There is a weak signal
pointing to Monday evening having the slightly better coverage for
any rain to occur.
&&
.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 527 AM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Winds will generally remain under 10 knots and slowly become
southerly as high pressure moves into the Great Lakes. Clouds
will be on the increase and lower after 00z/09 with isolated to
scattered rain showers possible after 09z/09. Outside of the
SHRA, conditions will remain VFR.
